Type 2 means that natural alexandrite unlike lab-grown alexandrite almost always has many inclusions. Therefore, clean stones are extremely rare and command great premium prices.

The color change is so strong that it can be easily observed not only in candlelight but any incandescent light like any yellow low-watt electric lamp's light. The stones are easily changing color from brilliant green to gorgeous purple, which makes them rare collector's gems.
